High-Performance and High Precision Microplates
Aurora Biotechnologies™ microplate products are constructed of cyclo-olefin polymer (COP) which has distinctive physical and chemical properties that are superior to polystyrene and polypropylene. Unlike conventional microplates, COP creates a superior combination of optimal clarity, thermal stability, biocompatibility, low auto-fluorescence, flatness and chemical resistance.

Intellectual Property

Aurora Biotechnologies’ intellectual property portfolio includes:

7,270,784 - Automated Laboratory for High Throughput Biological Assays and RNA Interference describes processes and methods to miniaturize at > 384 (1536 and above) various biological processes including high throughput, high content cell imaging/screening, molecular biology, RNA interference and cell gene expression and other biological processes.

Aurora Biotechnologies’ comprehensive microplate intellectual property portfolio includes COP compositions of matter and thin film insert injection molding manufacturing methods for producing low auto-fluorescence, thin transparent bottom microplates for use in high throughput fluorescence screening and high content and cell imaging screening.  The patents in the portfolio comprehensively describe:

  • The composition of matter use of Cyclo-Olefin polymers for producing microplates ;
  • the methods of manufacture to produce transparent bottom microplates (insert injection molding and injection molding methods),
  • composition of matter use of Cyclo-Olefin polymers for producing transparent bottom microplates,
  • additional Freedom to Operate in polymer compositions of matter that include polypropylene, polystyrene, polycarbonate, ABS
  • the well fields and formats of the microplates from below 96 wells to 9600 wells,
  • various pigmentations of the film and molded plastic,
  • the use of the plates for detecting signals from assays and for finding drug candidates,
  • the use of Cyclo-Olefin Polymer microplates with preprinted reagent for diagnostic kits and preformatted assays,
  • other formats including optical recording media disks for drug discovery,
  • and specific embodiments that are protected by design criteria.
