Aurora Biotechnologies’ microplate products offer distinct advantages in a vast variety of applications. Some of these are listed below.

Cellular Assays
In cellular assays most applications require a disposable microplate with good growth surface, preferably not glass, and good optical properties for imaging. Aurora Biotechnologies’ microplates offer specific features to enhance cellular assays, including:

  • Flat Bottom: provides uniform surface for adherence and growth
  • Low Birefringence: enables microscopic interrogation of cellular events
  • Surface Treatment: RF-gas plasma treatment for surface attachment with adherent cell lines
  • Small-Volume Container: perform cellular assays with as little as 1000 cells/well
  • Round Wells:  prevents cell “wicking” or “clumping” into well corners

Biochemical Assays
Biochemical assays require lowest possible background to achieve maximum signal-to-noise, chemical inertness, and low variability due to evaporation while working with minimal volumes. Aurora Biotechnologies’ microplates offer specific features to enhance biochemical assays, including:

  • Low Native Auto-Fluorescence: enables very sensitive fluorescence assays
  • Perimeter Wells: prevent evaporation in “edge-wells” allowing for more uniform data sets
  • Low Well Volumes: conserves costly reagents, or rare proteins/enzymes
  • Low-Surface Energy:  very low non-specific binding due to hydrophobic surface properties
  • High Light Transmittance: a clear optical window from 230nm to the near IR

Compound Storage
For compound storage micoplates must be amenable to automation, be solvent resistant and circumvent evaporation over extended periods to maintain integrity of the compound libraries. Aurora Biotechnologies’ microplates offer specific features for compound storage, including:

  • Broad Chemical Resistance: especially to DMSO and alcohol. Allows for storage of compound concentrates.
  • Mechanical Stability: hardness of 2.2GPa resists curvature or deformation by robotic-handling.
  • Clear Plates:  enable easy visibility of chemical in solution
  • Low Evaporation Lids: a snug fit dramatically reduces sample loss due to evaporation.
  • Pre-Labeled Bar Codes: labels are chemical and temperature-resistant, and sequenced for ease-of-use

Genomics Application-Real Time qPCR
Scaling real time qPCR beyond the 384 density format to increase data output while lowering cost, requires a platform that provides thermo stability and ideal optical properties for quantitative detection. Aurora Biotechnologies’ microplates offer specific features for genomics applications, including:

  • Uniform Thin-Bottom:  a 100 micron bottom thickness enables efficient heat transfer for thermocycling
  • Mechanical Stability: hardness of 2.2GPa resists curvature or deformation by heat-cycling
  • High Light Transmittance: a clear optical window from 230nm to the near IR
  • Low-Surface Energy:  very low non-specific binding due to hydrophobic surface properties
  • Sealable Plate Design:  enables heat or adhesive sealers to apply a uniform seal

Proteomic Applications-Protein-Protein Interaction
Protein applications require minimum non specific surface interaction combined with ideal optical properties for quantitative detection. Aurora Biotechnologies’ microplates offer specific features for protein applications, including:

  • Low-Surface Energy:  very low non-specific protein binding due to hydrophobic surface properties
  • High Light Transmittance: a clear optical window from 230nm to the near IR
  • Low Well Volumes: conserves costly reagents, or rare proteins/enzymes
  • Perimeter Wells: prevent evaporation in “edge-wells” allowing for more uniform data sets
  • Mechanical Stability: hardness of 2.2GPa resists curvature or deformation by robotic-handling.
